Benefits of Meditation

Increases your capacity to bear pain by reducing its emotional impact.
A wise philosopher-thinker said, “Pain is inevitable but suffering is optional,” suggesting that in spite of the presence of physical pain, one can overcome its impact and reduce the suffering which he might go through in life. In metaphysical terms, that's called “mind over matter,” which helps transcend physical pain by mental discipline and appropriate mind de-conditioning/training, as seen with meditation. Marcus Aurelius expressed the idea of 'mind over matter' in his quote, “Remove your opinion about what gives you pain and you stand painless.”
Now that sounded 'all in the air' till scientists investigated its neural basis and proved it right. Scientific investigation into the phenomenon has been recent with some interesting observations and findings.
In earlier issue, we have dwelled on benefits of meditation in improving attention span thus conferring its cognitive benefits. Besides that, positive evidence of reduced emotional reactivity by cultivating a sense of equanimity in distressing situations and lowering of pain sensitivity also add on to the benefits of meditation, as demonstrated in different investigative studies. What lends more solid and supportive credence to it is the fact that brain imaging studies in long-term meditators have demonstrated meditation to induce changes at a physiological level in manifesting such beneficial effects.
In a research study done by scientists at Wake Forest University and published in the Journal of Neuroscience (April 2011), researchers explored the impact of meditation on pain perception. The study evaluated the effect of meditation on pain intensity and unpleasantness reported by subjects, and changes in brain activation patterns were measured by functional MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging).
Heat applied by a thermal simulator assessed the pain response. Comparative analysis reported a 40% reduction in pain intensity and a 57% reduction in unpleasantness associated with pain (measured by heat stimulus) after training with meditation. Important finding in brain imaging scans suggested reduced activity in the brain areas (somatosensory cortex) evaluating feeling of intensity of pain or emotional response to perceptive pain; scans before meditation showed activity in this region to be high. At the same time, scans demonstrated that meditation increased brain activity in the areas responsible for experiencing relief from pain (primarily anterior cingulate cortex). The more the areas activated by meditation, the more was the pain relief felt.
The beneficial effect was possibly due to the dissociation of pain awareness with attached emotional evaluation of pain”, said lead researcher Fadel Zeidan, a post-doctoral research fellow at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. “This led meditators to be aware of pain sensation, but did not let them focus on the disturbance normally associated with pain,” he further added. “Meditation was more effective in blocking pain possibly because it did not work at just one place in the brain, but reduced pain at multiple levels of processing,” said Robert C. Coghill, another lead researcher and senior associate professor of neurobiology and anatomy at the Center. The findings clinically implicated that meditation produced greater reduction in pain than even morphine or other pain-relieving drugs, which typically reduce pain ratings by about 25%. “The study demonstrates that meditation produces real effects in the brain and can provide effective to substantial reduction in chronic pain without medications,” said Zeidan.
The study findings nicely sum up what Marcus Aurelius (the philosopher-thinker) had said, “Any external pain making you distressed is more due to your own estimate of it, and you have the power to revoke it at any moment.” With such interesting and promising findings, this has an implication in managing chronic pain through meditation making it a low-cost intervention in managing chronic suffering inflicted due to it.
In another similar study by Madison (University of Manchester) neuroscientists, long-term expert meditators felt discomfort to painful stimuli as intensely as novice meditators, but the experience wasn't as unpleasant for them. Thus, meditation was shown to reduce the emotional impact of pain. Brain scans revealed that advanced expert meditators were least likely to anticipate pain induced, which made the experience more bearable. Scientists were trying to find the mechanisms behind pain reduction and found that openness to painful stimuli led to decrease in stress response (anxiety), which led to a reduced feeling of pain. The expert meditators demonstrated faster “neural habituation (repeated exposure leading to decreased response)” to pain and its anticipation than novice meditators. “Meditation trains the brain to be more present-focused and spend less time anticipating future negative events, thus reducing recurrence of depression which makes chronic pain considerably worse,” said Dr. Christopher Brown, the lead researcher at the Manchester's School of Translational Medicine.
Other mechanisms by which meditation leads to a lesser feeling of pain is by producing endorphins, which are natural pain relievers in the body. Meditation has also been shown to decrease levels of stress hormones (e.g. cortisol and adrenaline), which otherwise increase anxiety during stressful stimuli like pain. Further, meditation also leads to increase in hormones like melatonin and DHEA, which help boost the immune system and promote a sense of calmness even during pain.
Whatever may be the mechanisms involved, what is important is that there is definite, objective evidence of meditation leading to the reduction in pain perception and the reduced emotional impact of pain, thus making it easier to bear. Now that gives you enough reason to tread the meditative path. And just in case it inspires you to walk the road, Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, the founder-head of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Santhan, and a Perfect Master of the present times, is disseminating the eternal technique of true meditation in the form of 'Brahm Gyan.' Make best use of the opportunity and reap innumerable benefits by practicing the 'Brahm Gyan' meditation technique!

Monthly Spiritual Congregation Soaked in Divinity

We all recognize the importance of well-being. It’s really essential to be physically healthy. But it’s like nurturing only the outer layer of fruit. If the seed is not healthy, then that nourishment goes in vain. Likewise, living with just a physically fit body without spiritual fitness won’t make us lead a life of a complete well-being.
Denninger, the Director of Research at the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, one of Harvard Medical School’s teaching hospitals says, “There is a true biological effect when one meditates. The kinds of things that happen when you meditate do have effects throughout the body, not just in the brain.”
When there is a lack of spirituality in the society, mental impurity begins to build up in the environment. This is known as Psychological Pollution. And this depletes the ‘spiritual energy’. Meditation is a spiritual union that allows the higher consciousness of ours to bond with the collective energy of the universe.
Hence, in order to reveal the secret of spiritually fit body, mind and soul and to make people feel the magic of spiritual nourishment in their life, Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (DJJS) - a non-profit, non-government and a leading spiritual organization, head and founded by His Holiness Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, organized a program of Monthly Spiritual Congregation on Sunday, June 12th, 2016 at Nurmahal Ashram, Punjab.
The program was commenced with holy prayer at the lotus feet of Lord. Devotional bhajans and songs sung with utmost dedication mesmerized the audience. The profound sense of devoting the life for a supreme cause filled the surrounding with divinity. Thousands of people sitting in meditation generated multitudes of positivity in the environment.
The spiritual discoursers from the dais shared the necessity of spirituality by making people realize the loss by not making it a part of our life. Today when the universe is full of negative energies, it becomes our prime duty to meditate and purify it as much as we can. Don’t let even a single minute of your life go waste. If you wile away this time and do not meditate, its value will be gone as your soul will miss out the most divine experiences of the Lord. On the other hand, if you meditate hard during this time, then you will become the brightest gems.
Hence, as His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, says, “ Wake Up!! Meditate and stop not until your Lord comes and embraces you!!! ”

Goodness: A precious ornament of your persona

 DJJS

Simple living, respectable life, camaraderie, and congenial association with people are the pillars of a successful life. It’s not wrong to say that the sustenance of all these driving forces in one’s life rests on one’s perceptual attitude and temperament. That’s exactly where the role of goodness comes into the picture. An individual whose personality is beautified with the ornaments of generosity, benevolence and tender-heartedness sets an example for others. For such individuals, life itself becomes peaceful and brings satisfaction at every stage.
While some people are naturally blessed with the art of goodness, some acquire such positive qualities with time. Our saints have always propagated their teachings on spirituality, which is regarded as the ‘Science of Sciences’. They preach that spirituality plays a pivotal role in shaping an individual’s perception and attitude towards life. The Founder and Head of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan, His Holiness Shri Ashutosh Maharaj ji is the Perfect Master of the time who underscores that spirituality enables one to rise above one’s vices and that it nourishes one’s mindset with good thoughts. There begins the phase of transformation that elevates one’s level of interpreting things.
No wonder, the treasure of spirituality opens many avenues where a person can explore hidden aspects of his character and personality.
Well, there are also certain points that we need to ponder over.
Show a thankful gesture
We are often filled with complaints and grievances and this hampers our ability to see positive sides of many things in life. This shows that we often forget the fact that there might be people deprived of the luxuries that we enjoy in our lives.
So, one must express thankfulness to God at every moment and find happiness in what one has.
Mingle with people
Be it our college life, corporate environment, or a fitness centre where we visit daily, we come across people from all walks of life at every place. But we might get along well with only some of them. Does it mean that we build a feeling of dislike for those whom we couldn’t mingle with? Certainly, no. It’s good to be polite with everyone. Nevertheless, the situation demands leaving the company of a person whose mannerism seems odd to you.
Anger... the biggest enemy
A small issue, when not handled peacefully, worsens the situation. Anger is a major impediment that weakens your ability to comprehend the situation and therefore, you might end up with unfavourable consequences. So, learn to control and manage a situation with patience.
Track your life events
You must have learnt about writing a Diary Entry in your school. Put it into practice and start maintaining such a record that is updated regularly with your emotions and sentiments. Write whatever good you do in a day or even if you make mistakes. Read the entries to sustain the goodness of your deeds mentioned in it as well as to rectify the mistakes.
That was a walk-through of some key points. So, set off your journey of change and stay away from negativities like ego, hatred, jealousy etc. Unveil your goodness and become a source of inspiration for others as well.

Shri Ram’s Divinity

DJJS

Under the auspicious guidance of His Holiness Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan organised seven days Shri Ram Katha in Jalandhar, Punjab from 8th April to 14th April.
Shri Ram Katha has been narrated and heard for ages. This shows the amount of faith and love towards personality of Lord Ram in the minds and hearts of people across generations. The personality Lord Ram had symbolises ideal societal values and human virtues.  It gives detail guidelines about every relation such as father-son, husband-wife, and teacher-student and between two brothers or friends.
This fascinates the listener, because every individual in the society is the centre of a web of relations in his personal space and feels the euphoria of an ideal relation marked by true love, sincerity and faith. In day to day activities he/she is always in search of such an ideal relationship and expects that the person with whom he/she is related to will carry the relation morally. This often leads to disappointment because of impurity in minds and hearts of an ordinary person marked by personal gains and ego.
It is a matter of enquiry to discover what made Lord Ram impeccable?

Lord Ram was an incarnation of the Divinity on the physical plane i.e. earth. Divinity is described as Sat-Chit-Ananda i.e. that which is True, Conscious and Blissful. It is only this immaculate embodiment of Divinity that makes Lord Rama a complete and perfect persona. It is through the eternal science of spirituality called Brahm Gyan (divine knowledge), that a Perfect Master activates the Divinity which is innate in the disciple. Human Engagement

Human Engagement

Sri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, founder and head of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan, lays emphasis on the science and reason behind Indian culture and its various festivals and practices. Spirituality is not exclusive of science. Spirituality is the science of life marked by logic, reason and experience. It was also marked by distinct union with nature making man a part of the creation and not arrogant master of all life forms. Indian culture since prehistoric times has carried this science along, giving it a wide set of epics, events, practices, festivals and art form.

The event began by discussing several similar events across the world. This was indicative of the common human nature that is to love one another despite multitude of existence. Holi has its regional variants across India. The unique nature of the festival is colouring each other to mark love they share by forgiving and forgetting their past.

Melodious and meaningful heart soothing bhajans were sung which captured the interest of the audience. Indian New Year too has regional variants across India. In northern plains it is called as Vikram Samvat celebrated on Chaitra Shukala Pratipada. In Southern region it is celebrated as Yugadi, Gudi Padwa. It is marked by religious zeal and social merriment, indicating a cyclic process of human existence in which the old is washed off while the new is welcomed gaiety.

In these modern times, there is a need to share and revive the science of spirituality to emancipate us from devastating global issues. The first step to the science of spirituality is Brahm Gyan, which is bestowed by a Guru on His disciplines so that their journey on the path of spirituality is guided and guarded against all pitfalls and challenges. The audience were captivated by the event due to its sticking feature of describing the modern day needs while narrating the relevant cultural practices which has evolved since prehistoric times.

Prahalad exhibited undeterred faith in his goal to attain the Divine love of Shri Hari. It led lord to materialize from a stone pillar. In all religions Lord is considered to be Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent. If anything fails Him from manifesting is the lack of faith, love and surrender in us.

Celebrating festival of Holi in India and across the world marks the possibility of sharing of love for mankind across regional diversity and differences. In addition, combining it with Indian New Year opens a new opportunity to let go off what was sours in mutual coexistence and welcome the new prospect of revived engagement.

Nurturing True Spirituality

The true bhakti begins by imbibing those profound learnings within the personality which is only possible after internally getting connected to the supreme lord. Just like, Lord Krishna bestowed the Divine eye to Arjuna and initiated the Divine knowledge within his soul, similarly, each soul starves for the eternal peace till we get the same divine blessing from the perfect master of the time.

Lord Krishna was Lila-Purushottama, the divine sportive form of God. He was the Yogeshwar, and at the same time the embodiment of pure love. Each and every divine past-time of His life is infused with sublimity and profound secrets. In order to convey rich resource of knowledge from the ancient legacy to the masses and inculcate in them the inevitable divine endowments.

Disciples inaugurated the ocean of auspicious Katha with the mesmerizing shlokas from the pious Vedas and scriptures aiming to set the environment positive inside out for the masses. After praying at the lotus feet of Lord Krishna. This divine peace can be attained by treading on the paths of Brahm Gyan mounted by the revered master Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji. The modern era also needs the nourishment of this divine technique to set free from evils and attain the stage of social transformation.

The true spirituality successfully served its supreme purpose in making the congregation present there aware about how to address problems of personal and social concern through the teachings of the Greatest Management Guru of all times, Lord Krishna.

Words of Wisdom Illuminate Devotees' Minds & Spirits

Under the divine guidance of His Holiness Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, the monthly congregation once again eulogized the glory of the Supreme and brightened the ignorant hearts. The thirst and longing for the Satguru is what lures the masses into the program. In addition to that, they gain spiritual strength, peace of mind, equanimity, aswell as optimism. The spiritual discourses keep them bound to their seats, the melodious devotional hymns magnetizes them to swing and dance for the Master.

Preacher and disciple of Shri Maharaj Ji proclaimed that these spiritual discourses (Satsangs) act as a mirror, revealing exactly where we stand and they also acts as a sharpener, sharpening any rusty edges of our hearts, bringing our true identity out. It is with this identity we are able to do Satguru's work in the world spreading His message of truth, far and wide.

True indeed! Today, we are busy in comparing ourselves on outer physical appearance, ignoring the value of our inner wealth, the essence of our life contained in our precious breaths.

Preachers further stated that these kids of spiritual gatherings provide us the ability to rise up and above to fulfill the true motive for which we are born. Bestowing us with Brahm Gyan, Reverend Gurudev has showed us the realm of divinity within and introduced us to our true purpose. Now it is our turn to do the work he has put forth. HIS supreme goal of world peace demands full surrender and rising way beyond the current societal norms. The attendees of the program attested that as the world drags us down; spiritual dosage at this monthly gathering keeps us motivated, refusing to stay down.

Shri Krishna Katha

The Shri Krishna Katha explains human life very clearly that the goal of the life is to tread the path which leads to the ultimate liberation of the soul. It is therefore an important guide for the conduct of human beings in all their affairs.

Shri Krishna Katha

The Krishna Katha acted at two levels – Inner purification of individual being and catapults the need of transformation of the society. Splendid stages, customary worship and peace-marches were the highlights of the event. The peace marches were organized to spread the divine vibes of love and brotherhood across the streets. A huge congregation of Katha-lovers participated in the nectar of narrations. Preacher disciples of Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji gave lucid descriptions of the verses very lyrically and artistically.

The Katha was not merely storytelling but was an oration of profound veiled meaning of it which can’t be understood by a human being. The Katha also gave a tremendous insight, a profound vision, and an entirely new perspective to the person who heard the narrative. On hearing, a person is never the same. There is a complete metamorphosis, a complete transformation, literally a new birth of Atman (soul) which is by its own nature supreme, cannot be bound and free from all bondages. Whatever bondages felt were sheer illusions of the mind. Shri Krishna Katha provided that light which enabled Jeeva (human being) to experience the wonderful freedom of liberation.

BRAHM GYAN THE ULTIMATE TOOL TO ENHANCE PSYCHO- IMMUNITY

BRAHM GYAN THE ULTIMATE TOOL TO ENHANCE PSYCHO-
IMMUNITY

How to get established in the soul and function as the witness of the mind? How, after becoming

the witness, can one secure victory over the ailments of the mind? There is just one solution to all

these questions– Atma Gyan or Brahm Gyan, i.e. the knowledge of the Soul or Atman. Only on

taking refuge of a Perfect Master, one can be blessed with Brahm Gyan and experience the soul-
force in his inner world in the form of Light. But experiencing the Soul or Atman alone is not

enough. Through the regular practice of meditation, one needs to perfect the art of remaining

established in the Soul. We need to traverse the journey from the “mind” to the “Soul.”

For this constant practice and an attitude of renunciation is necessary. Lord Krishna said to Arjuna

while delivering the message of the BhagavadGita:

Asanshayam mahaabaaho

mano durnigraham chalam,

Abhyaasena tu kaunteya vairaagyena cha grihyate.

O mighty warrior! Indeed, the mind is fickle and with great difficulty it can be brought under

control. But, O son of Kunti! With constant practice and with the attitude of renunciation, it can be

brought under control.

Brahm Gyan based meditation is that extraordinary procedure with which we can transform the

dark and polluted photons, which encourage the growth of negative tendencies, into the ones

which are divine, brilliant, and conducive to positive tendencies that will lead to the growth of peace within. This was the procedure/technique that transformed the ferocious criminal like Angulimaal (in the
imes of Lord Buddha) into a peaceful and non violent human being. Therefore, Brahm Gyan

Global peace

What is the process of realization of God? What is the purpose of life? What is the reality of this metaphysical world? How to establish peace in life? These were the divine questions for which solutions were provided in the event. The program commenced with a series of devotional music that filled the hearts of audience with the zeal to know God. Also it was emphasized that there is no silver bullet to attain Global peace. Just the way we breakdown a task into its sub-activities, Global peace is broken down into its smallest unit of individual peace. Unless an individual is at peace, he/she can never translate the same at the society, country or world level.

Present day real life examples as well as examples from the history were shared during discourse by the preachers. Preachers told about the challenges and hurdles that a person has to go through in his life and how can a person overcome these problems with the help of ‘Brahm Gyan’. The preachers also stressed on the fact that in hustle bustle of life these days, no one has the quest and zeal to attain peace or realize GOD, a longing that Saints like Vivekananda always had. So DJJS (under the aegis of perfect master of today, Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji) is providing Brahm Gyan free of cost so that individual can realize GOD within. The need is to take few steps forward on the path of Truth to lead a balanced and contended life. Then only true inculcation of Ramcharitrmanas and Gita is possible.

Inner peace

Inner peace

Innerpeace refers to a state of being spiritually and mentally at peace, with enough knowledge and understanding to keep oneself strong in the face of discord or stress. Inner peace can be reached only when we practice forgiveness. Forgiveness is letting go of the past, and is therefore the means for correcting. Peace of mind, serenity, and calmness are descriptions of a disposition free from the effects of stress. In some cultures, inner peace is considered a state of consciousness or enlightenment that may be cultivated by various forms of training, such as prayer, meditation or yoga. Awake your Energy. Enjoy the Inner Peace. Realize the dream. People have difficulties embracing their inner spirituality because the everyday stressors get the best of them and finding peace and happiness in the little joys of life can seem like a lot of work, and results don’t seem all that gratifying.

Life isn't simple between the analysis of growing up and also the tribulations of with success navigating a career, there’s lots of hardship that should be overcome. If people are going to reach the level of happiness that they deserve. This can be equally true when people reach their retirement age and start to settle into their twilight years. Yet far from being the joyous period when they get to live out the rewards of their lifelong efforts, some people struggle to adapt to their newly acquired free time and instead travel down a path towards unhappiness.

Here, we provide some guidance on how you'll be able to acquire some peace. If it applies to you, read the Spiritual Magazine text books at djjs.org. If it’s for a parent, try to push the conversation towards this line of thinking.

It is difficult to accept that we are moving on in our lives, that we've got more in our past than in our future, that our bodies are telling us that we aren't as young as we wont to be. For some, that could be when they can’t quite make the same sporting play they used to be able to play or once they would like a little extra help around the home or for women, when their body enters biological time stage.

Yet you don’t need to automatically accept these facts as a bad thing. Whatever you make of them – and in any case, you'll and can take them in your stride. Not being able to play sport gives you longer to focus on reading and improving your mind and spirituality, while menopause, though not adequate, will be managed with proper management.

Put another way: this things are going to happen one way or another, thus there’s little point trying to fight with them. You can, however, put the most effective possible spin on whatever happens – it’s all about attitude!
