To play any musical instrument, an essential aspect is to tune it. In the absence of tuning, it is impossible to produce melodious notes from it. Likewise, this life is an instrument. And, to play soothing notes of peace and wisdom from it, it is essential to tune it. In the spiritual parlance, 'Satsangs (Spiritual discourses)' play the role of a tuner, which tune us on to the path of spirituality.

In this hi-tech world, we are either fully immersed in articulating machines (Smart phones, Computers, Tablets, PCs, etc.) or are caught up in our professional lives most of the times. In such a scenario, where we are constantly in touch with maya (materialism), it becomes difficult for us to stay connected with the Lord Almighty. And, thus it becomes vital for a disciple to devote some time in the company of saintly people. Such enlightened people are like spiritual dynamos. Their strong, positive, powerful words serve as the wonderful fitness mantras not just for the body and mind but also for the soul. In the context of spiritual discourses, one of the modest sources of inspirational and spiritual literature of India known as Atharva Veda (10/8/16) also advises: 'O sons of the nation! Man is uplifted only by the company of scholars, the wise and men of character. Satsang is the gym for spiritual exercise.'

To gain more insight into the subject and its importance, here is a narration from an Indian scripture:

Once a sage named Narad went to the Lord and asked– “O Lord, please tell me the greatness of satsang?” God did not answer the query directly and pointing towards a worm said, “Ask that worm and it will answer your question.”

Obeying the commandment from the Lord, sage Narad went near the worm and asked his question– “O species of the Lord, can you tell me the importance of satsang?” He had hardly completed his question and was eager to listen to the reply, when he found that the worm died.

On getting such an unexpected response, the sage went to the Lord again and narrated the entire incident to Him. But, before he could comment any further, the Lord said to him to ask the same question to a parrot which had just taken birth in the nearby house.

The sage went to the parrot and placed his question before it as per the instruction of the Lord. Alas! This time again, in reply to his query, the parrot died! The same thing happened in the case of the calf as well to which the Lord had asked to ask the question, after the parrot had died.

After witnessing all this, sage Narad requested the Lord to answer the question Himself. At his request, the Lord replied, “Narad, do not lose patience. Just now, a prince is born to the king of the same town. Go and ask the same question to the prince and this time you will get the answer for sure.”

Narad was afraid. He thought, what if the same thing happens with that little child as well. The king would not pardon him. But, it was an instruction from the Lord, and so he had to abide by it. He went to the king's palace. With a fearful heart, he asked the newborn prince the same question once again, “O little one! Can you tell me the importance of Satsang?”

To his utter surprise, the small boy did not die. Instead, he smiled and said, “O Sage Narad! Your words made me free from the trap of three births in which I was forced to face the consequences of my previous deeds. And, by the grace of this satsang, I could get this precious human birth again in which I can attain liberation. Many, many thanks; I am indebted to you. I will always remain grateful to you.”

Such indeed is the importance of spiritual discourses. Satsang offers the means to bring reformation in life. Those who attend satsang, they get to know the way by which one can live in the world without getting drowned in the pool of attachments. It is through satsang that one gets to know the real aim of life. He learns about the importance of human birth. The greatest of all, it is by the means of satsang only that one comes to know about the identity of a True Guru, whereupon he seeks his tutelage who makes him see God.

Satsang proves to be a great means for helping a disciple to nurture the characteristics of patience, understanding, prudence and wisdom. He is able to comprehend the fact thatwhile sitting in the ship of the Perfect Master, the jerks that he gets are not meant to drown him. Rather, they are to protect him from getting drowned in the ocean of maya. He gains the understanding that whatever challenges and troubles he has to face in his life, they will add to his growth and development only.

Also, when people assemble in spiritual discourses, they gain positive spiritual vibes, which cast an impact on every individual, apparently and otherwise. One gains new energy to tread the path of self-transformation. And, when each individual starts working upon himself, a bigger change automatically takes shape. Physicist David Bohm says in his book 'On Dialogue' that the microcosm of the group is a reflection of the macrocosm. Bohm states, “The group is the microcosm of society; so if the group– or anyone– is cured, it is the beginning of a larger cure.”

Therefore, dear disciples of the Lord! We, who are the microcosm of society and who have realised our True Self by the grace of our Perfect Master, His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, need to come together to trigger a bigger change. These microcosms of society are only going to bring peace in the world– and lead to the making of a divine world!

Ram, as believed, is not merely the name of a person who lived during Treta Yuga and had killed the daemon king Ravana. Ram is the name of a strength which lies deep within all human beings. In today's chaotic world where all relationships are devoid of feelings, promises are vague and righteousness is a forgotten word, the divine name of Lord Rama comes to a rescue and re-establishes the bygone humane values. The question is how to get that divine name. Is mere chanting of Shri Ram’s name loudly is divine name or is it more intricate?

To enunciate the true divine name, Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (DJJS), a socio-spiritual organization organized Shri Ram Katha from June 15 to June 19, 2016. Historians say that centuries back, there was a Roman King ‘Vitelius’ who first used to stuff himself at the whims of his gluttonous palate, and then vomit out by drugging himself. Eat and eat, over and over again, he could not feel content until his digestive system broke down. Someone has truly said to describe such people, “Fire cannot be extinguished by pouring oil in it; rather it gets wilder.” In words of psychologists, affluence is directly proportional to inward crisis. Once Jesus said, “Bread won’t feed man’s soul; obedience to every word of God is what we need.” And, we can follow God only by imbibing His words in our heart, body, mind and soul.

She said that his life was a model for people in days past, the modern world and surely for those in ages to come. Lord Sri Krishna shows all His devotees how to balance materialism and spirituality. He ruled the country, advised as minister and gave the highest form of knowledge to Arjuna and Uddhava. His life was a perfect example of how to remain focused amidst the worldly fire. The only thing which can bind Him is the loving devotional service of His devotees. She also beautifully explained the essence of Sri Krishna Avatar through a Shloka from Bhagavad Gita –

“Yada Yada Hi Dharmasya, Glanirva Bhavathi Bharatha, Abhyuthanam Adharmaysya,Tadatmanam Srijami Aham’. Praritranaya Sadhunam Vinashaya Cha Dushkritam,Dharamasansthapnaya,Sambhavami Yuge-Yuge.”

It means that whenever there is a decline in righteousness O! Bharatha, and a rise in the unrighteous, I manifest Myself! For the protection of the good, for the destruc­tion of the wicked and for the establishment of righteousness, I am born in every age.”

Further, the Katha orator said that the Soul, which is the part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, is an inexhaustible treasure of bliss; however, this perennial source of happiness can be harnessed only upon learning the real technique of meditation i.e. “Divine Knowledge” through the Perfect Master of the time. Through this Eternal Technique, we can practically experience and realize God within.

Large number of Devotees gathered to attend this peaceful and spiritual discourse. Several dignitaries marked their presence at this event and the program was concluded gloriously with‘Katha Gyan Yagya’. Many souls realized their inner self by getting initiated into Brahm Gyan.

Believing without seeing is blind following

You must have heard people declaring at the top of their voices: ‘We are Christians’ or ‘We are Hindus’ or ‘We are Jews’, etc. Basically, this is all a matter of their belief. Have you ever tried to ponder over what they actually believe in? Generally, we are compelled to believe and, hence, follow whatever we have been granted by our parents and taught right from our birth. We consider ourselves to be Hindus if we are born in a Hindu family, Muslim if born in a Muslim family believing in Prophet Mohammed, Jews if born in a Jewish family, and Christian if born in a family believing in Jesus Christ. However, whatever family you belong to, you cannot be truly religious unless you achieve the direct experience of God, as exhorted by Swami Vivekananda:

Religion is the realization of God.

The aforementioned maxim elucidates the fact that to be a true Hindu or Jew or Mohammedan or Christian, one needs to achieve the practical experience of God. In other words, without the direct perception of God, you cannot be truly religious. Believing in God without seeing is merely a blind following. Moreover, such a belief can never be staunch and steadfast; for it can easily whither away, swayed by the vicissitudes of our life. One of the eye opening incidents in the life history of Lord Buddha vividly exhibits this fact before us.

Once someone approached Lord Buddha and said, ‘O Buddha! My son is looking for a job. If there is any existence of God, then he must get a job within three days.’ Fortunately and to his amazement, the very second day, his son got a job. Out of joy, he came running to Buddha glorifying God, ‘O Buddha! Your God is really great. See, He is so miraculous and powerful that He granted the job to my son. O Buddha, I am overjoyed today. This fulfillment of my wish has made me believe in your God. From now onwards, I can easily believe in your God.’ Seeing his excited state and sensing his pre-conditioned belief in the existence of God, Buddha gave him a token of advice, ‘Dear son, no doubt, God is there, but if you want to develop an unflinching faith in Him, then stop desiring and imposing conditions on Him.’ However, the ignorant man did not pay any heed to his holy advice. Few days passed and that man again visited Buddha and said, ‘O Buddha! My wife is severely sick. If God is there, then she should recover within three days; otherwise, I shall be an atheist again.’ However, to his utter dismay, his wife passed away the very next day, and he came rushing to Lord Buddha condemning and blaming God in full rage.

Dear readers, similar is the flinching faith exercised by the people today. How can conditional belief be staunch and steadfast? The majority of people today are accustomed to believing without any application of the scientific law of experimentation and research to validate what they believe in. Without any verification, they believe in their personal gods, scriptural injunctions, rituals, and ceremonies. There is no harm in believing, but remember that belief is only the first step. It would stagger and prove futile if it fails to culminate in the flowering faith.

There is a world of difference between the two terms- faith and belief. Faith can be defined as the ripened belief, the well-tested and well-verified belief. Suppose, someone comes to you and says, ‘There is a lion outside the building you are sitting in.’ If, relying blindly on his words, you start trembling out of fear, then such a trust of yours, unaccompanied by any investigation, will be called a mere belief that can even be a blind one. However, if after getting the news of the lion, you don’t simply rely on the words of the news giver, instead you start inquiring and investigating and trust in his words only after verification, then this belief of yours can be said to be true faith. Therefore, faith can be described as an unflinching belief developed only after the practical experience.

Similar is the case with religious faith. It too demands a scientific approach. Faith does not mean a cosy belief to rest by; rather, it is a torch to enlighten the Soul for spiritual realization. In the absence of this torch, the belief of the faithful is identical to the unbelief of the faithless; for then it becomes entirely dogmatic. However, no dogma or creed can appease the hunger of a truly religious heart. It is only the practical realization that can quench the spiritual thirst and satiate the spiritual hunger. True religion is a matter of inner practical experience and not that of belief or dogma. However, dear readers, as is explicated quite frequently, this inner practical experience or the direct perception of Almighty dawns only when a Perfect Preceptor (Spiritual Guru) bestows upon us True Knowledge or Divine Knowledge.

DJJS organizes an exclusive youth awakening workshop 'JAAG JAWAN JAAG'

For the month-long auspicious occasion of Simhasth Mahakumbh, the holy premise of Ujjain has been thronged by inquisitives from all round the world. Devotees arriving for holy dip are amassing the pearls of divinity, thus enriching themselves. In this series, under the prudent guidance of H.H. Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan brought to light another grand facet of Kumbh, oriented exclusively for the youth of the nation– they being the backbone of society. Cognisant of the fact that a real change at ground level can be manifested in society only via the youth power, His Holiness has always expressed a special concern for the youth of society. In this purview, ‘Jaag Jawan Jaag’ – a youth awakening event was organised in the encampment of DJJS at Kumbh on 19th May 2016, which was attended by hundreds of youngsters belonging to NSS and the various universities around. Several renowned personalities and dignitaries were also present on the occasion, including Makhan Singh, Chairman Simhasta Mela Samiti, Vishnu Dutt Sharma – Rashtriya Upadhyaksh Nehru Yuva Kendra who greatly applauded the ideology of the Master and the commendable work done under His aegis to channelize the youth power.

The layout of the program was a perfect fusion of conventional aspects of religion and spiritualty and the contemporary and rational outlook of the modern-day youth. The sessions were highly interactive blended with activities and videos. DJJS representative Sadhvi Ruchika Bharti while addressing the youth emphasized on an addiction-free life through intriguing activities and Sadhvi Om Prabha Bharti elucidated on national responsibility nurturing feelings of patriotism. The star performance by the famous Bollywood comedian Deepak Raja and Ghazal maestro Panjak Riyaaz also won enthusiastic applauds from the participants. Another special attraction of the program was marked by an enlightening skit depicting the journey from Narendra to Swami Vivekananda– who is honoured as the youth icon even today. On top of all, the key aspect which leads to the making of a real youth, i.e. the science of Self-realisation through meditation was extensively highlighted by Sadhvi Tapeshwari Bharti in the concluding phase of the program. The participants found themselves greatly privileged on attending the program and were seen brimming with new zeal and spirit to ‘be the change’ in order to ‘bring the change’!

The person responsible for making France one of the great nations in the world was none other than Napoleon Bonaparte. When Napoleon was a small child, his mother sent him to a school in another town, though the family was not very rich. Napoleon had to study in a small place. The room in which he stayed was not in a good locality. The neighbourhood was full of quarrelsome, teasing, mischievous people who tried to let him down and make fun of him. When he sat for studies, a lady would trouble him calling him a bookworm and that he would die in the room with his head in the books one day.

Napoleon's mother used to write him a letter every week. Once, she wrote– 'Son, time is waiting for you to emerge as some useful personality. So, take advantage of the time and grab every opportunity of the student life. This is a formative period. If you miss the opportunity, you will have to cry for your whole life because then nothing would be left. That is why make right use of every minute you have at your disposal.'

Napoleon used to read the letters and get fresh inspiration from them. He, thus ignored the people who made fun of him and concentrated totally on his studies. One day, some students along with that lady stood in front of his small room and made a lot of fun of him. They taunted him saying that he is a termite… He does not know anything except licking books…  He is a useless fellow who does not go out, does not attend any party or dinner… who does not know anything about the world...

Napoleon listened to all those remarks quietly. Meanwhile, he received a letter from his mother. His mother had written– 'Son, your father died when you were a very small child. At that time, I was the only one to pray for you and to see dreams for you to be realised. If you forget your books and goals, what will happen to those dreams? You would be forced to bow in front of the world all through your life. On the other hand, if you would become someone worthwhile, the world would salute you and take your name with honour. Therefore, you should not let your valuable time go in vain.' And, while concluding her letter, she wrote to him that he was born in France; and, since his father was no more, so France itself was his father. Therefore, he should make every effort and bring glory to his great nation.

Napoleon, during his student life, took healthy food and did regular exercise. And, it is a tested formula that healthy food, right exercise, and a cheerful disposition keep the body and mind healthy and alert. Napoleon studied well. He topped in every class. After completing his studies, he became the supreme commander of the French Army and took France to the pinnacle of glory.

One day, while riding on a horse along with his soldiers, Napoleon went to the locality where he used to study in a small room. The French police surrounded him for security purposes. People from the neighbourhood crowded around him. Napoleon was sitting on the horse. Meanwhile, the lady who used to make fun of him came there. Her name was Helena. She was old by now. Napoleon asked her about the boy who studied in that small room. She told Napoleon that he was a bookworm and must have died somewhere. Who will know of him now? He was only seen when he went for jogging and exercise. Otherwise, he kept sitting day and night inside the room and never lifted his head from his books. He may not have perhaps raised his head to even see the world.

Napoleon smiled and told the woman that the same boy was sitting on the horse in front of her as the supreme commander of the French Army. His achievement was the result of one-pointed concentration on his goal and his determination to attain it! If he had bothered about the world, then, he would not be known to the world as one of the greatest military leaders who revolutionised the military organisation and training in France.

You can spearhead programs or drives on special days like World Environment Day, thereby generating awareness on a social issue. Get active even at your workplace and be a part of the interactions. Great ideas like organizing games every Friday with delightful snacking make your workplace interesting.

• Unveil your passion – No doubt, you might not have pursued your hobby or a talent gifted by god. Carry out an introspection and discover what you feel about it now. Don’t let your passion go even if you are engrossed in your work schedule. Take out some time like on weekends and develop your talent like taking Photography classes if you like to capture special moments in your camera.

• Be a medium of change – While following your routine schedule, devote some time to noble causes and get associated with an NGO. Your youthfulness, your enthusiasm, your original ideas can be the harbinger of a better tomorrow for under-privileged sections of the society that need your support and contribution.

Lead us from ignorance to truth; Lead us from darkness to light; Lead us from death to deathlessness.

This prayer from the Holy Scriptures has been recited in every era. Knowingly or unknowingly, every heart looks for peace and tranquility at the end of day. All the materialistic fixtures of life do not provide the solution to the hollowness that one feels. Though society’s condition is grim today, good news is that solution is available and that too permanent.

To disperse the light of Lord everywhere in spite of ignorance of malicious desires, Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (DJJS) organized an insightful Shiv Katha. With the everlasting grace of His Holiness Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji (convener and head of DJJS), the Katha was organized from April 22nd to April 26th, 2016 in the historic city of Ludhiana, Punjab. Katha orator, Sadhvi Tripada Bharti Ji, gleamed light on the in-depth meanings of Lord Shiva’s holy attire as well as each of HIS divine plays featured in our Holy Scriptures.

Sadhvi Ji further explained that to take away pain and suffering, to rid the humans of vices, and to destroy all evils, Lord Shiva works day and night. He has been termed as ‘Triumbakam’, the one with 3 eyes. He is known to epitomize spiritual meaning of the third eye - the divine eye. According to the scriptures, all humans possess the third eye, scientifically known as the pineal gland. Once the third eye is awakened, an individual experiences the light and the true form of Lord Shiva within.

In addition to learning about Lord’s exterior look, the attendees of the katha also acquired information on how to awaken the third eye and be one with the Lord. His Holiness is continuously imparting Divine Knowledge, the scientific technique of experiencing Lord, Brahm Gyan. Be Like The Honey Bees!

Kamal kadaa aani darduri naanuk eke chiyaa
Dhari paraag seweeje bhramaraa year chikhlachi ure

It's a great statement by the God incarnate saint of Maharashtra, Shri Gyaneshwar, which says– a lotus flower and frog– both live in the same place, i.e. mud. A humming bee enjoys the nectar of the lotus flower whereas mud and insects remain for the lazy frog. Indeed, it's the fruit of the hard work that honey bees put in! One can draw an estimate of the extent of hard work of honey bees from the fact that in order to collect 1 kg of honey (i.e. nectar), they travel a distance equal to the circumference of the earth! Likewise, what falls in our lot depends on what we choose to become, i.e. whether we wish to be like a honey bee– sincere, dedicated and hard working to enjoy the nectar; or, we wish to be like the lazy frog getting only insects and mud!

Saint Gyaneshwar, who wrote this statement, himself represented a wonderful inspiration for mankind in regard to making this choice between a hardworking honey bee and a lazy frog. By the age of 8, he had mastered the entire Vedanta and had developed miraculous powers such that he made a buffalo recite Vedas. He completed the commentary on the Bhagawad Gita through a dead man whom he made alive at the age of 15. After contributing few more literary works at the age of 21, he finally took to seclusion in an underground room for 300 years. Then he called Saint Eknath and interacted with him for 3 days, after which he handed over to him the original commentary. 

History is replete with such examples, where people chose to adopt the pattern of life studded with the traits of sincerity, dedication, and hard work. And, this approach brought them great success and honour in life. For instance, Ramanujan had solved the entire book of Trigonometry by the age of 12. At that young age, he had discovered the relation between exponential and trigonometric functions. He had gone through 6,000 theorems in pure and applied mathematics by George Carr. With such dedication, he ultimately turned out to be the greatest genius in Mathematics ever born!

Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the second President of India, had studied the entire Hindu mythology by the age of 12. Besides being laborious, he was also wise in assessing the situations. One day, at that tender age, he questioned his teacher at the Mission School– “Does your religion teach only to criticise other religions?” Certainly, such analysis reflects his mental maturity.

Dr. C. V. Raman and Dr. Chandra Shekhar Subramaniam graduated by the age of 15. Dr. Chandra Shekhar Subramaniam remained busy with mathematics most of the time and his uncle Dr. C. V. Raman used to assist him whenever he came across any difficulty. It was the outcome of his true dedication that he attained a doctorate in Physics by the age of 19 and won Nobel Prizes.

Verily, great personalities, who choose to become like honey bees, harbour great aims from early childhood itself. Maria Golda Mayer used to dream of receiving a gold medal from the Queen as a child. By dint of her hard work and perseverance, she grew up to become a Nobel Prize winner in Physics, which she received from the hands of the Queen of England.

Such personalities are receptive to inspirations from all directions. These inspirations then act as a catalyst, which kick-starts their hidden potential. Heisenberg, who read the book on atomic concepts by Pluto, got interested in reading books and gaining more knowledge on the subject. He made a very wide study and contemplated deeply on atomic structure. After that, he wrote the book 'Atomic and Nuclear Spectra' contributing articles to the journals that ultimately yielded him Nobel Prize in Physics.

Harrison Dillard became an Olympic gold medallist after having received the inspiration as a child from none other than Jessi Owens who won three gold medals in a span of 10 minutes in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. In total, Jessi Owens had won 4 gold medals garlanded by Adolf Hitler, who did not shake hands with him. However, such things do not dispirit the real enthusiasts. In the Press Conference, Jessi Owens responded wittily– 'I have not come to shake hands with Hitler, but to win gold medals for the honour of my country, America.' Deriving motivation from Jessi Owens, Harrison Dillard also sidelined all those factors, which could discourage him in realising his dream. It was the result of this inspiration that, in spite of being from a very poor background, he decided to make it into Olympics. He worked hard during his preparation to the extent that he remained in sports gear 24 hours a day! He practiced relentlessly and lived his dream until he won the Olympic gold medals.

Many researchers have also attempted to find out as to what makes great personalities really great. In a study on the best and the greatest personalities in the world, it has been revealed that they put in at least 10,000 hours more than other people. Certainly, it is not an impossible thing! If one starts working 3 hours more every day, right from early age, then, by the time he passes out from the university, he will have completed more than 10,000 hours of additional study or efforts put in.

One important aspect needs to be highlighted here. No doubt that by following the codes of hard work and dedication, one can accomplish even those targets, which otherwise seem impossible. However, it is utmost essential to ascertain that the direction chosen for putting in that hard work is correct. Else, the results may turn out to be utterly disastrous! Oppenheimer became the President of the American Geological Society at the age of 11. He became the chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of America and was responsible for the creation of the first atomic bomb. However, due to the absence of wisdom in his approach, when the atomic bomb was tested on Bikini Islands, he saw the flames and smoke rising in the sky causing great devastation. As a result, before dropping the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, his conscience compelled him to utter a statement in Sanskrit from the Rigveda, which meant – 'I have become death', reflecting how catastrophic his action was! Therefore, be hardworking and sincere like honeybees; but, at the same time, also be wise in your approach.

According to the documentary 'The Secret', anyone can attain what he desires as if sitting under the wish tree. Indeed, it's true! But, there are some essential requisites for it to happen, which are: dream early, make that dream your determination, and then, prove the statement of the movie Iqbal, “When men set their minds to it, they can kick a mountain to dust!”

The Why's of GOD!

Suppose Mr. X purchases a new car. Now, once he drives away with his car from the showroom, is it the manufacturer of the car who should be held responsible for the way Mr. X drives it? Should the manufacturer be deemed accountable if the car gets bumped into something and is smudged with scratches and dents? No! Likewise, the manufacturer alias the Creator of our lives is not the one to be held responsible for the kicks and hits of pain we face in our lives.

It can also be answered in this way– God made the law of gravity, thus making it possible for us to walk and remain grounded to the surface Mr. X of the earth. Now, if you climb a ladder and jump mindlessly, thus violating this law, thereby fracturing your leg, who is to be blamed– the law, the Lord or you yourself? 

BUT, IT OFTEN HAPPENS THAT GOOD PEOPLE SUFFER, WHILE THOSE WHO ARE CLEVER AND HURT OTHERS FLOURISH. WHY THIS INJUSTICE IN GOD'S WORLD?

It's basically a corollary to the previous question. Let's say you have a silo, the container for storing the grains. You unload the huge sacks of grains into it, which then are taken out through a shutter opening near the bottom of the drum. Now, it is indisputable that the same type (implying the quality) of grains you put in the silo will come out from the shutter opening.

Similarly, this human garb being blessed by God is the silo. Our deeds vis-à-vis the grains, keep on getting filled in it. Of course, these grains are wholly and solely put in by us. Not even a single grain comes from God or anyone else into our silo. Good grains symbolise good deeds, and rotten grains represent our bad actions. There is one more aspect here, which cannot be ignored in our case. It is that the silo of the human garb is not empty at the time of birth; reason being, it contains the grains of deeds performed in past lives. This lot is further appended with the actions we carry out in this life. Now, suppose, at present you put in a good grain; but, a bad grain (stored earlier) happens to come out, or, vice-versa… would you call it injustice?

The same philosophy works when you do good to others, but in return receive suffering; or, when your colleague/relative deceives you or hurts you, but, in return excels in his personal and professional life!

Therefore, next time when you complain to God saying that He does injustice with good people, think again and ask yourselves… 'Are you justified in blaming Him for your actions?’

HATE, JEALOUSY, VIOLENCE, GREED, LUST– WHY GOD MADE THESE EVILS, THAT TOO DESIGNED IN SUCH A WAY WHICH TEMPT US AND WE ARE EASILY DOOMED?

It's true that everything is created by God, be it good or evil. The scriptures clearly state, "I am the Lord, and there is no one else. I form the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil; I the Lord do all these things.”

It is also true that evil has an attractive covering. Almost everyone tends to fall in its trap. Being deceived by its alluring appearance, we happen to forget that what we think we are relishing, is actually sugar coated poison, killing us every moment!

But, evil has a significant role to play in God's creation. The value of goodness is realised in the contrasting circumstances of evil. Had the blackboard of evil not been there, how would the message of righteousness written with white chalk be visible?

Moreover, evil can be said to be the test-criteria projected by God, to see how wise we are in making our choices! …Whether we go for the trifling attractions and temptations of the world, which have time and again proven to be deceptive? Or, we seek the real beauty and attraction behind every existence in this creation!

The enlightened ones suggest us to utilise the tool of free-will and wisdom in making this choice. They say–

" Yat saarbhutam tadupaasitavyam hamso

yathaa ksheeramivaambumadhyaat "

Amidst the hurdles, be wise to imbibe only the essence; just as the swan sips the milk and discards the water.

Therefore, it is undeniably true that God created Evil. However, He has also created and stored in us the faculty to discriminate between 'Evil' and 'Good'. So, make use of this faculty. Follow the key advice– 'Take the best and leave the rest!'

WHY DESPITE SO MUCH PROGRESS, SCIENCE HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND GOD OR SOLVE THE GREAT MYSTERY?

The answer to this is beautifully expressed by Albert Einstein, who says– “I see a clock, but I cannot envision the clockmaker. The human mind is unable to conceive of the four dimensions, so how can it conceive of a God, before whom a thousand years and a thousand dimensions are as one?”

Besides lacking the requisite level of aptitude in terms of the appropiate tool to realise God, there is a flaw in the direction of search as well. In this context, Swami Vivekanada draws a contrast in the approach of the East and the West, which are often said to have spiritual and scientific bents respectively:

 ‘Just as the Greek mind, or the modern European mind, wants to find the solution of life and of all the sacred problems of our Being by searching into the external world, so also did our forefathers; and just as the Europeans failed, they failed also. But, the Western people never made a further move; ...they failed in the search for the solution…in the external world; and there they remained, stranded.

Our forefathers (the enlightened sages) also found it impossible, but were bolder in declaring the utter helplessness of the senses to find the solution… They discovered that dull, dead matter would not give them truth, and they fell back upon the shining soul of man, and there, the answer was found.’ ('The Complete Works' of Swami Vivekananda)

WHY IS IT SAID THAT GOD MADE MAN IN HIS OWN IMAGE? HOW CAN THE 'ALMIGHTY' GOD BE THE SAME AS A 'MINISCULE' MAN?

It is somewhat like saying– how can the electric current in the bulb fixed in your room be the same as the electric current in the 'big' power house? Or, how can the space of your small room be the same as the space of the 'whole' cosmos? It's only a matter of realising their oneness by looking beyond the confinement (of ignorance) through the appropriate tool (the Divine Eye in our case). The reality of our infiniteness will then be instantly revealed!

True Purpose of Life through Shrimad Bhagwat Katha

Shrimad Bhagwat Katha

Through various bhajans and anecdotes she elucidated how time and again saints have asserted the significance of listening to Shrimad Bhagwat Katha, as a tool to emancipate oneself from the cycle of birth and death.

An individual takes several life forms before getting a chance to take birth as a human being. Despite this fact, humans do not realise the true purpose of human life and spend the precious time in chasing temporary happiness. It is only in human form that the soul can attain liberation.

However, even after attaining this precious opportunity people do not engage in the activities which can take them to their goal. Instead, they get caught in the illusion of life which can be equated to dream state. When the soul is not awake, life merely becomes a dream of a sleeping soul.

In sleep state, we do not have control over the events; similarly life becomes an uncontrolled set of events without any direction and any certainty. As a result the life is caught in the web of relations and worldly pleasures and forgets the true purpose of life.

On the other hand, if the soul is awake, it can take proactive steps to change the course of life, to reach the goal of life, by walking on the path shown by “Perfect Master”. This in its true essence means leading a Spiritual life, i.e. the life of the “spirit” which is housed in our body in the form of life energy. “Perfect Master” or “Guru” is a spiritually awakened and realised being who can help human beings to walk on this path by initiating them to “Brahm Gyan”, the eternal science of self-realisation.

Once the disciple starts walking on the path shown by his/her Guru, the soul is empowered to take conscious control over the course of life, free of tribulations and impediments of normal life.

This does not necessarily means to reject life by walking into the forest to practice spirituality. Sri Aurobindo, an Indian freedom fighter turned spiritual saint, has summarised “Bhagwat Gita” as “All Life Is Yoga”. In this way the life can be lived while engaging in personal and professional activities, making every event an opportunity for spiritual development, which alone can give eternal happiness.
